What a Verified Dating App Actually Means - Inside HoopFrog Verification

Verified on HoopFrog is not a badge. Every profile shows what has been checked: phone, email, age, photos, the optional live selfie, and a friend's vouch, with everything beyond the required phone and age added up in a public Trust Score you see before you say hello. A confirmed phone number is required before anyone can like or message, so the people you meet are far more likely to be who they say they are.

Why "verified" is not all the same

Many apps call themselves "verified" when all they offer is one optional photo-check badge that a fraction of members bother to complete, and a badge tells you nothing about what was checked. HoopFrog does not use a single verified label. Every profile shows six checks and a public Trust Score, so you read what a person has done before you say hello. That is the difference between a hidden badge and a community you can actually read.

The six checks on every HoopFrog profile

Phone

Confirmed by a text code. It is required before anyone can like, show interest or send a message, which removes the easy path automated accounts rely on.

Email

Confirmed by a link. It counts toward the Trust Score and shows on the profile.

Age

A date of birth is required and members must be 18 or over. Where the law requires it, a certified third-party partner confirms age; HoopFrog never receives the document.

Photos

Every upload is screened automatically before it can appear, and anything that does not pass is held for review.

Live selfie (optional)

A member takes a live selfie and HoopFrog compares it with their profile photo to confirm a live, real face behind the pictures. It is optional, and the profile shows whether it has been done.

Friend's vouch

A friend can write a short testimonial that appears on the profile. It is one more signal from outside the app.

The public Trust Score

Every profile carries a Trust Score from 0 to 100, built from eleven steps: the six checks above plus five profile steps (the questionnaire, a complete profile, three or more photos, a voice prompt and a video greeting). Phone and age are required of everyone, so they add no points. A higher score means more of these steps are complete, and you see it before the first message.

Verification is the foundation, not the finish line

HoopFrog pairs these checks with report review, anti-romance-scam detection, and AES-256-GCM-encrypted messaging, and it never sells your data to advertisers. The checks raise the bar for impostors; the rest helps keep the community safe and private once you are in. These are safeguards, not guarantees: the checks do not confirm real-world identity, and we do not run criminal background checks. You can export or delete your data anytime in Settings.

Common questions

What is a verified dating app?

A verified dating app should let you see what has actually been checked, not just show a badge. On HoopFrog every profile shows six checks (phone, email, age, photos, the optional live selfie and a friend's vouch) with everything beyond the required phone and age added up in a public Trust Score. A confirmed phone number is required before anyone can like or message, photos are screened at upload, and age is confirmed by a certified partner where the law requires it.

Which dating app verifies that users are real?

HoopFrog shows you the checks instead of asking you to trust a label. Every profile lists whether phone, email, age, photos, the optional live selfie and a friend's vouch are done, with a public Trust Score from 0 to 100. A confirmed phone number is required before anyone can like or message, not to create an account. The live selfie is optional and is compared with the profile photo.
